Skip The Fryer! These Baked Chicken Wing Recipes Are Delicious And Lower In Fat

Posted on

While fried chicken wings are certainly an American food favorite, they're not the best choice health-wise since they pick up extra fat during the cooking process. If you want to appeal to customers who are a bit more health-conscious, consider adding some baked chicken wing options to your menu. The result is still finger-licking delicious but also a bit lower in fat. Here are two tasty baked wing recipes to get you started.

Baked Italian Wings

These wings are seasoned with a dry rub and then finished with a sauce when they are done baking. The crispy skin will remind you of that of a fried wing, and the flavor just can't be beat—especially for those who love garlic!

Ingredients:

  • 20 chicken wing halves
  • 1 packet dry Italian salad dressing mix
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup bottled Italian dressing
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar

Sprinkle the Italian dressing mix, garlic powder, and salt evenly over the chicken wings. Arrange the wings on a baking sheet, and bake them for approximately 30–40 minutes at 375 degrees F. You want the wings to be very brown and crispy before you remove them from the oven. If your wings are on the large side, you may need to bake them for a few more minutes.

While the wings are baking, combine the bottled Italian dressing and the white vinegar in a metal bowl. Mix to ensure the two ingredients are evenly distributed. Immediately after removing the wings from the oven, place them in this bowl and toss them to coat them in the sauce. Serve immediately.

Baked Buffalo Wings

For those who love the classics, these "Buffalo-style" hot wings are the perfect choice. Unlike traditional Buffalo sauce, the hot sauce is made without butter for a healthier approach.

Ingredients:

  • 20 chicken wing halves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup bottled hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Season the chicken wings with the salt and pepper, and place them on a baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F for 30–40 minutes or until very brown and crispy.

While the chicken wings are in the oven, combine the hot sauce, vinegar and vegetable oil in a metal bowl. Stir well. When the chicken wings are finished baking, transfer them to the metal bowl and toss them to coat them evenly in the sauce. Serve immediately.
